“Consider it wholly joyful my brethren, whenever you encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations. Be assured and understand that the trial and providing of your faith bring out endurance, steadfastness and patience.”
According to this scripture, trials and temptations are designed to try your faith. That is, to see if you really believe and trust in the promises of God. As you go through the trial or temptation, you will either falter in your faith (belief and trust in God) or grow in your faith (belief and trust in God). Moreover, as you grow in faith, you grow in longsuffering (endurance) perseverance (steadfastness) and patience (waiting expectantly).
We must engage in spiritual warfare using spiritual weapons. These weapons are not carnal, but spiritual. (II Corinthians 10:3-4) We must use (put on) the Armor of God as outlined in (Ephesians 6:10-18). Out of the whole armor of God, the Sword of the Spirit is the most powerful because it is the Word of God. (Hebrews 4:12)
Therefore, when you speak the Word of God with faith, you are cutting down the sickness, oppression, discouragement, doubt and unbelief, and deception – demonic forces that plague you with.
Remember, “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12) When the devil came to Jesus and tried to tempt him, Jesus said in (Matthew 4:4) “. . . it is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” The devil tried to tempt Jesus a second time when he took Jesus into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, and saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down; for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto the devil, “It is written again Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.” (Matthew 4:5-7)
The devil tried to tempt Jesus a third time when he took Jesus into a high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and said unto him, all these things will I give thee if thou will fall down and worship me. Then Jesus said to the devil, “Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil left him, and angels came and ministered unto him.” (Matthew 4:10-11)
Notice that after Jesus Christ confessed the Word of God, the devil could no longer tempt Him, and he departed (left) Jesus. The same thing occurs, when we confess the Word of God, with faith believing and trusting in the Word we have confessed. The plots and tactics (trials and/or temptations) terminate (end) and we are victorious (the winner).
We are to glory (be joyous) in tribulations because the tribulations enhance patience, and patience experience, and experience hope. (Romans 5:3-4) Hope in the power and strength of the Word of God.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:25)
Tribulations and temptations we experience in our lives work for our good by:
- Increasing our faith (belief, trust and confident reliance on God and His Word;
- Strengthening us spiritually; and
- Giving us a testimony to testify of the goodness, grace, and mercy of God, and the victorious power of the Word of God.
When we confess the Word of God we overcome the devil and all of his evil plots, plans, and schemes, and are VICTORS IN JESUS CHRIST. We are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ. (Romans 8:37) So when tribulations and temptations come, know that God is with you and will deliver you if you confess (speak) the Word of God with faith believing and trusting.
